Projects:

1. The environmental impact assessment of government policies as an extension of the EIA of development projects and plans has been discussed a lot in the literature, but rarely tried in practice. One of the reasons is a lack of understanding as to how to assess a proposed policy. Several possible methods exist, e.g. scenarios, multicriteria analysis, soe reports, budgetary analysis, regulatory impact statements. Research into the design of an environmental policy assessment framework is one of my principal areas of interest.

2. A second area of interest lies at the cutting edge between environmental policy and law and the science of environmental management. This cutting edge demonstrates that the practice of scientifically informed environmental management may not fit in well with existing legal norms. How to merge the adaptive nature of environmental management with legal principles and rules is a fruitful area for research.

3. Environmental justice is an emerging area within environmental policy and law at international and national levels. Much scope exists for research under this heading.
