Sustainable grazing systems; rumen ecology, nutrient monitoring and management.

The environmental impact assessment of government policies as an extension of the EIA of development projects and plans. Environmental policy and law. Relating legal instruments and the legal process to the science of environmental management.

Projects

1. Project investigating the reduction of methane emissions from livestock by vaccination and/or diet modification.

Methane is 20% of the Australian greenhouse gas contribution based on the Kyoto accounting method. 80 – 90% in Australia comes from livestock. Reduction in methane produced by farm animals will reduce Australian greenhouse gas emissions significantly.

2. Sustainable grazing systems.

Assessment of new fodder species that will reduce watertables, fix atmospheric nitrogen and produce year round feed will improve sustainability in farming systems in Western Australia.
